U.S. Highway 1 - Florida

Photo taken by Costa (2003)

The U.S. 1 photos eminate from the stretch of road between Port Orange and New Smyrna Beach (situated within in New Smyrna Beach city limits). This is a second segment of road that shows evidence to have been the former carrier of U.S. 1.

East of the current U.S. 1 alignment is this abandoned stretch of pavement and remnants of a former bridge. To the north of this small bayou is another stretch of old highway ending at a gate/fence near an abandoned gas station. Photos taken by Costa.
Looking north towards current U.S. 1 near the bayou crossing depicted above. The land between the communities of Port Orange, New Smyrna Beach, and Ponce Inlet (to the east) consists of wetlands and tributaries. Photo taken by Costa.
